Hello everyone. I just found this website last night. I am trying to go into the Computer-Integrated Machining program at the college I have enrolled in. I was wondering if it seemed like a good program for some one aspiring to become a machinist?  I will post the link below for the details on the program.  Also, I have been an 11B(Infantry) in the Army National Guard since 2009. I want to re-class my MOS into something that can be more useful for becoming a good machinist. I found the 91E(Allied Trades Specialist) while searching. I am guessing this job is being a machinist for the army. I was wondering if anybody here did or knew anyone that did the job for the army, and if it was useful for their career? If you have any wisdom/guidance for a young guy trying to start off a career in this field...PLEASE...feel free to share with me. Thanks guys!

I am Ron Smith retired chairman of the Machine Tool Technology Dept at Cerr=
ritos College in Southern California. I am also the author of this site.

There is a copy of site running on servers of The USMC armament school wher=
e they teach machining and rebuilding of every type of gun, cannon, rocket =
and so on.

I'll wager the US Army has a like school.

Hey Ron. This is a really good site. I finally registered for my classes this week. I was amazed at how nice the shop is(not that I have ever seen one before), but it was very clean and lots of machines. The instructor showed me around the shop and talked to me about everything. He has been doing his best getting grants for the program, and there is another separate room in the shop that has some of the CNC machines. One of the first projects we do is make our own hammer. I know it doesn't seem like much, but I have never made anything, so I am excited to begin the classes on August 20. I am sure I will visit this site a lot while attending school and after. Nice to have a resource to communicate with vets of the trade

Wonderful.. GRANTS!!!

Funds are loosening up. Yeah .. the same dumb-ass academicians that killed manual arts in our high schools in favor of four year degrees are finally starting to pay attention to us who have been shouting in their face for 20 years. They are too smart to listen and have the degrees to prove it. Germany is the hottest economy in Europe. They insist that everyone get an education but that education can be as a plumber if need be... we? well we put a man on the moon so therefore plumbers took a back seat to scientists 50 years ago. Educators are the most pompously ignorant group in America. But we are beginning to win the battle.
